Jane Hannaman

NEWTON — Jane Ann Hannaman, 72, of Newton, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services celebrating Jane Ann's life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Newton, with Rev. Stephen Willis officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Cancer Center of Effingham or Southeastern Illinois Hospice. Online condolences may be left at www.blakefh.com.

Jane Ann was born on Sept. 23, 1940, in Olney, the daughter of Stormy and Fern (Woods) Parr. She married Tom Ackerman in 1959 and they had three children. They later divorced and she married her high school classmate, Tom Hannaman, in April 1973.

Jane worked in the insurance industry for 30 years, both as a secretary and as an agent. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. Jane loved keeping her house tidy and working in her flower beds.

Most of all she loved spending time with her family, wherever they were. Jane was also an avid Newton Eagles fan and attended as many events as she was able. Her battle with cancer was long and she wanted desperately to get better.

Jane greatly appreciated all of those who took care of her and tried to make her last days more comfortable and more pleasant. If you knew her, you probably remember her beautiful white hair, her great smile and her quick-witted personality.Ê

Jane is survived by her husband, Tom Hannaman of Newton; three children, Brad and Maria Ackerman of Estero, Fla., Brett and Laural Ackerman of Newton and Julie and Randy Chapman of Newton; seven grandchildren, Kayla Ackerman of Gainesville, Fla., Brittany (Tyler) Weber of Muscatine, Iowa, Reid Ackerman of Newton, Kyle (Courtney) Klier of Newton, Mark Klier of Newton, Jack Chapman of Newton and Lucy Chapman of Newton; and two stepgrandchildren, Kristin (Kevin) Radke of Newton and Mitch (Lindsey) Chapman of Davenport, Iowa.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents.
