---- — George Earl Taniges, 86, of Assumption, formerly of Herrick, died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Moweaqua Nursing & Retirement, Moweaqua.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Price Cemetery, Oconee, with the Rev Chuck Banning officiating. Burial will be in Price Cemetery, Oconee, with military rites by the Sarver-Guthrie Post 839 American Legion, Herrick. George Earl Taniges was born Friday, June 10, 1927, in Herrick, the child of Tony H. and Bessie A. (Frailey) Taniges. George attended Herrick schools and was a graduate of Herrick High School. He was a World War II US Army veteran, and member of Assumption Presbyterian Memorial Church.
George was a crackerjack mechanic, working on cars and farm machinery at the Carl Turner Garage in Herrick, the Ford Dealership in Pana, and retiring from Kuhle Ford Assumption in 1986 after 20 years of service. He was a member of Clover Leaf Lodge Herrick and the Sarver-Guthrie Post 839 American Legion, Herrick.
He is surived by his daughter, Patricia Beason (Jerry) of Newburgh, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; son, David; and sister, Inez Burrus.
