Joe Norris, 78, of Champaign, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Heartland Healthcare.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign, with the Rev. Robert Lampitt officiating. There will be no visitation. He was born Sept. 17, 1934, the son of Joe and Catherine Norris.
He married Joyce Taylor on June 3, 1972, in Wapella. She survives. He received a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1959. Mr. Norris was involved in broadcasting for over 43 years, 32 of those were at WICD TV in Champaign.
He was also employed at WCRA, Effingham; WSOY, Decatur; and WDWS, Champaign. Joe was a United States Army veteran, spending 18 months in Japan as an Information Specialist in 1955-56.
At one time, Joe was a member of The C-U Optimist Club, C-U Kiwanis and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. In recent years after retirement, Joe was employed at Christie Clinic and The Thomas, Mamer and Haughy law firm.
He is also survived by his three stepchildren, Mark Taylor (Reggie) of Champaign, Bruce Taylor (Connie) of Kingwood, Texas, and Pam Taylor Pettyjohn (Kent) of Champaign; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Theresa; and one stepson, Scott Taylor.
