Michael Charles “Mike” Schaefer, 49, of Casey, formerly of Effingham, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, surrounded by his family at Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.
He was born Sept. 13, 1963, in Effingham, the son of Frederick C. Schaefer and Janice Marie Osborne Schaefer.
Survivors include his parents, Fred and Jan Schaefer of Effingham; daughter, Kaitlyn Schaefer of Casey; son; Austin Schaefer of Casey; brothers, Gregory (Theresa) Schaefer of Bennett, Colo., Tracy Schaefer of Martinsville, Anthony (Jennifer) Schaefer of Ridgecrest, Calif., Scott (Michelle) Schaefer of Sigel; sisters, Cynthia (Mike) DePoister of Effingham and Lisa (Ed) Hobler of Effingham; mother of his children, Carlene Schaefer of Casey; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mike worked at Evapco in Greenup. He was a member of the Effingham Men’s Bowling Association and had been inducted in to the US Bowling Hall of Fame for bowling a perfect 300 game. He was an avid supporter of the Casey-Westfield football team.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Markwell Funeral Home in Casey with the Rev. Michael Haag, officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
