Ruby Rosemary Bennett, 94, of Effingham, formerly of St. Elmo, passed away at 4:10 a.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.
Funeral services celebrating Ruby’s life will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church, Effingham, with the Rev. David McConnell officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Ruby Rosemary was born on Oct. 4, 1919, in Seminary Township, Vandalia, the daughter of Fred R. Crumbaugh Sr. and Ida M. (Moschenross) Crumbaugh. She was the second daughter and last child of three children. Ruby graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1937. On Feb. 16, 1939, Ruby married Jack Bennett, her 5th grade sweetheart. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2001.
Ruby was an encourager in Christ Jesus and an active member of First Christian Church. She was a talented homemaker and a bookkeeper for Ruby Propane Gas Business for 12 years. Later she worked in sales at Anderson’s Jewelry for 22 years. She enjoyed oil painting, winning blue ribbons in art shows, and learning from her friends in Effingham Art Guild. She also took much pleasure in volunteering at the Cross and Lakeland Health Care Center. Ruby was a beautiful Christian lady who loved and cared for her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her two children: son, Gary L. (Helen) Bennett of Lexington, Mo., and daughter, Audrine (Robert) Hubbartt of Mattoon; granddaughter, Pamela Y. (James) Freund and great-granddaughter, Taylor L. Freund, all of Blue Springs, Mo.; grandson, Randall L. (Michelle) Bennett of Independence, Mo.; great-grandson, Dustin J. (Meagan) Freund and great-great-granddaughter, Avery K. Freund, all of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; sister, Marie Waddell of Effingham; nephew, Scott (Celina) Eyestone of Stafford, Va.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, F. Ross Crumbaugh Jr.; and sister-in-law, Joyce (Bennett) Eyestone.
