Vernon G. White, 80, of rural Neoga, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Mattoon Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Long Point Cemetery, near Neoga, with the Rev. Brad Brown officiating. As per Mr. White’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery, Neoga. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be expressed at swengel-odell.com.
Vernon was born Oct. 16, 1933, in rural Neoga, the son of Mearl and Violet M. (Keller) White. He was a retired farmer and a retired carpenter and he loved working with his family. Vernon married Joan Davell on Aug. 18, 1963, in Cumberland County.
Mr. White leaves his wife, Joan White of rural Neoga; two sons, Scott White and Keith White and wife Cheryl, all of Neoga; one daughter, Kathy Dean of Neoga; three brothers, Virgil White and wife Loretta, Loren White and wife Sharon, all of rural Toledo, and Clarence White and wife Wanda of Mattoon; two sisters, Helen Rose Smith of Neoga, and Blanche Titus and husband Ralph of Charleston; five grandchildren, Darren Dean, Travis Roy, Sarah White, Amanda Wright and Bailey Price; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Herschel White.
