Maye McMechan, 95, of Greenup, passed peacefully from this world to be with her heavenly father at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014.
Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Barkley Funeral Chapel, Greenup. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, rural Greenup. Maye was born May 11, 1919, daughter of Otto and Rose (Coleman) Kemper. Maye was born at home near Union Center. She was married to Kenneth McMechan on Jan. 30, 1937. Union Center (Slap) held a special place in mom’s life. Not only is Slap where she met Kenneth, but where they were married and first started a home together. Maye was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a member of the Plum Grove Church, the Cumberland County Democrat Club, the Golden Girls and Home Extension. She served several years as a Precinct Committee Woman.
Surviving are Kenneth’s and her six children, Ronald Steven (Janet) McMechan of Greenup, Sandra Eades of Springfield, Karon Pfeifer of Dover, Florida, Sharon Rose (Steve) Shull of Newton, Sheila (Terry) Holsapple of Greenup, and Susie (Ken) Beaumont of Greenup; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 13 siblings, including her twin sister, Faye; an infant son, Kenneth Alan; and her husband, Kenneth of 69 years.
