Rev. David Frey

The Rev. David Frederick Frey, 90, of rural Stewardson, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his residence, surrounded by his wife and sons.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sigel, with the Pastor Glenn Strohschein and Pastor Gary Fortkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Visitation will also be held one hour before services on Monday. Burial will be in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Sigel. The Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga is in charge of arrangements.

David F. Frey was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Arnheim, Ohio, the son of Rev. William F. and Minnie C. (Bush) Frey. He married Grace Martha Sievert Sept. 5, 1954, in Blue Island, Illinois. The Rev. Frey graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. He was ordained by his father as a Lutheran Minister in 1951, and served congregations in Indiana, Ohio and Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway until his retirement from the full-time Ministry in 1985.

Pastor Frey and his wife also served the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Sigel, where they both were members.

Pastor Frey leaves his wife, Grace M. Frey of rural Stewardson; two sons, Tim D. Frey of rural Shumway and Dan J. Frey and wife Sandy of Glen Carbon; one brother, Robert Frey of Obetz, Ohio; two sisters, Miriam Wagel and husband James of Russellville, Ohio, and Anne Russi and husband Rodger of Worthington, Ohio; three granddaughters, Amy Macias and husband Rick of St. Louis, Kelly Mills and husband Joe of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Laura Frey of Durango, Colorado; two step-grandsons, Clayton Zak and wife Rachel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Taylor Zak of Forrest Park: two great-grandchildren, Ellie and Evan Mills of Crawfordsville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Pastor Frey was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rev. Paul Frey; and two nieces.
