John Ralph Michl, 86, of the Bend, Jasper County, passed away June 14, 2014, at his home where he dearly loved to be.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Crain Funeral Home, Newton, with the Rev. Larry Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Valentine’s Cemetery in the Bend with military rites by the Ste. Marie American Legion.

John was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in the Bend to John Joseph and Anna Teresa (Kraus) Michl. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, returning home as a mechanic. He later took over the family farm. In addition to farming, John was a bailiff in Jasper County for twelve years. John served for 32 years on the St. Marie Township Board and was active in the Democrat Party of Jasper County. He married Naomi Alene Michl on May 28, 1949, and she preceded him in death on March 4, 2001. John was a member of St. Valentine’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Ste. Marie American Legion No. 932.
John was a respected man, loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was truly loved. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by five sons, John Charles Michl, wife Rose of Ste. Marie, Jerome Arthur Michl of Robinson, Phillip Lester Michl of Terre Haute, Indiana, Edmund Cletus Michl, wife Martha of Robinson, and Clarence Mathew Michl, wife Robin of Lawrenceville; one daughter, Katherine Ann Lawhead, husband Gary of Oblong; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kathy Kearby and girls of Robinson.
His parents; wife; an infant brother, Jerome Arthur; and two sons, Ralph Eugene in 1969 and Mark Anthony in 2011, preceded him in death.
