Clarence Kollman

ALTAMONT —     Clarence A.  Kollmann, 83, of Altamont entered into eternal rest at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, with his family by his side.

    Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Joseph Simburger and the Rev. John Savoree officiating. Burial will be at St. Clare Catholic Church Cemetery, Altamont, with military rites by Gieseking-Schwertfeger V.F.W. Post #7676, Altamont. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont,  with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or the donor’s choice.

    Mr. Kollmann was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Damiansville, the son of  William and Bina Francis (Moss) Kollmann. He married Suzanne Bell July 29, 1972, at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont.

    He had been a lifelong farmer and livestock raiser, was known for his “custom baling,” was an avid “John Deere” man and was one of the first members of Mound Prairie 4-H Club. He was a lifelong member of St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont, and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Post #665, Effingham. He was a Korean War Army veteran serving with the 297th EOB Engineers Unit in Alaska. He had served as a group leader and repairman for Fedders USA for 38 years until retirement.

    Alzheimer’s took him away from the lifestyle he enjoyed but did not take away his “special smile” and “sparkling blue eyes.” He will be greatly missed.

    Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Kollmann of Altamont; sons, Andy Kollmann and wife Jody and Alan Kollmann and wife Michelle, both of Altamont; brother, Robert Kollmann of Altamont; sister, Carolyn Kollmann of Altamont; sister-in-law, Deronda Kollmann of Watson; and eight grandchildren, Taylor, Jared, Andrew, Eric, Justin, Katie, Alisyn and Jenna Kollmann.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert and Bill Kollmann; sisters, Pauline Kollmann and Christine Czyzweski; brother-in-law, Joe Czyzweski; and sister-in-law, Mabel Kollmann.
