---- — Robert Wesley Van Osdol, 88, of Effingham, formerly of Chicago, entered into rest at 9:10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, in Effingham.
As per the wishes of Mr. Van Osdol, a military graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery of Elwood. Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at swengel-odell.com.
He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Lansing, Mich., the son of Oliver Leonard and Erma Katherine ( Lodie) Van Osdol. Robert was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Chicago and he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert married Ellen Ann Hankel March 27, 1948, in the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Chicago.
He was a retired salesman for the Wholesale pet supplies. He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Glenview and a life member of the Robert Woodburn, American Legion Post 1037.
Mr. Van Osdol leaves his loving wife of 65 years, Ellen Ann Van Osdol of Effingham; one son, R. Wesley Van Osdol of San Jose, Calif.; one daughter, Robin V. Jarrett (husband, James) of Ormond Beach, Fla.; one sister, Katherine Rehkopf (husband, Arvid) of Lansing, Mich.; three grandchildren, Jamie (wife, Alissa) Jarrett of Iowa City, Iowa, Katie Roberts (husband, Jeff) of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Karie Jarrett of Hampton, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Roberts and Brandt Jarrett.
Mr. Van Osdol was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Mary (Miller) Van Osdol; parents, and sister, Leona Van Osdol.
