---- — Mildred Helen Elder, 83,of Trilla, passed away at 4 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Aspen Creek, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, with the Rev. James Maroon officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Beals Cemetery, Trilla. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at swengel-odell.com.
Helen was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Cumberland County, the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Day) Shobe. She married James Edward Elder, Oct. 20, 1945, in Tuscola, and James passed away Nov. 29, 2008. Helen was a former employee of Kern Manufacturing of Neoga, Ampad Company of Mattoon, and she retired from General Electric Company of Mattoon, after 25 years. She was a former member of the Eagles Club of Mattoon, and a former member of the Camping Club.
Helen leaves two daughters, Donna Trog and husband, Roger, of Mattoon, and Sue Drummond and husband, Jerry, of rural Toledo; two sisters, Margaret Orsborn of Mattoon, and Evelyn McArthur of Charleston; one sister-in-law, Katherine Shobe of Casey; four granddaughters, Holly Morgan and husband, Ben, of Kansas, Amanda Bryant and husband, Keith, of Charleston, Christina Kallal and husband, Frank, of Godfrey, and Amber Waterman and husband, Josh, of Neoga; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Elder was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James E. Elder; one daughter, Lori Ann Elder; one brother, Kenneth Shobe; one sister, Ruth Horath; one son-in-law, John Cole; and two brother-in-laws, Harry Orsborn and Andy McArthur.
