---- — John D. McCain, 92, of Effingham, left his home to join his Heavenly family at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at New Beginnings Church, 1007 S. Willow Street, Effingham, with the Rev. J.C. Neff officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made to the family or New Beginnings Church. John was born on Aug. 15, 1921, in Fairfield, the son of Roy D. and Alta M. (Fenton) McCain. He married Mabel A. Smith on Aug. 1, 1953, and she preceded him in death on June 17, 1995. He then married Judy K. McKown on Feb. 7, 1998. John farmed the family farm as a young man with his dad and brothers and also worked on the railroad with his dad. He was employed at Norge-Fedders from 1954 to 1967. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 347 for 45 years. John was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, rural Altamont, and a Methodist lay minister. He was a present member of New Beginnings Church, Effingham.
John is survived by his loving wife, Judy of Effingham; children, Debra (James) Durham, John D. (Melissa) McCain Jr., and Robert (Jolynn) McKown; brothers, Kenneth (Lila) McCain, Charles (Lori) McCain and Louis (Bev) McCain; sister-in-law, Georgia June Brown; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, the Rev. J.C. and the Rev. Jessie Neff and Ed and Trish Hunnicutt; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and dear family friend, Charity.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel A. McCain; brother, Robert McCain; and one grandson.
