---- — Lloyd Ralph Johnson, 93, of Stewardson, passed away at 6:03 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the Evergreen Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Burial will be in the Stewardson Cemetery with military rites. The family requests casual attire. Memorials may be made to the Stewardson Lions Club Tractor Pull Fund. He was born June 9, 1920 in Peoria, the son of Carl and Elsie (Duckworth) Johnson. His family then moved to Trowbridge a year later. He married Marjorie Ann Storm on Dec. 9, 1940 in St. Charles, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 1973.
Lloyd was a veteran of WW II serving in the US Army from Dec. 1941 until Dec. 1945. He served in the Pacific in the battles of Anguar and Peleliu. He earned several medals and ribbons including two bronze stars. He farmed for several years, was a milk hauler for 25 years and had several other jobs. He was an avid ball player and coon hunter, and loved tractor pulls, the St. Louis Cardinals and also danced a little.
He was a member of the Stewardson Lions Club and American Legion and the Mattoon Eagles.
Surviving are sons, Ronnie Johnson (Donna), Dennis Johnson (Alice) and Bobby Johnson all of Stewardson; grandchildren, Craig Johnson of Strasburg, Drew Johnson of Effingham, Brooke Mueller of Stewardson, Carrissa Runde of Teutopolis, Bridgitte Friese of Strasburg, Cody Johnson of Stewardson and Kristen Althoff of Watson; great-grandchildren, Tanner, Kierra, Kale, Alaira, Mya, Kalia, and Reagan; and sister, Lillian Baker of Roseburg, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Walter Eugene Johnson and Dwight Johnson.
