---- — George Robert Eugene Doty, 82, of Beecher City, passed away at 10:51 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at United Methodist Church, Beecher City, with the Rev. Paul Bauer officiating. Burial will be in Beecher City Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Beecher City, with Masonic rites at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Beecher City Veterans Memorial. He was born May 20, 1931, in Beecher City, the son of Wilson Wayne and Mercy Alta (Tennery) Doty. He married Bonnie Beck Dec. 24, 1954, in Shumway, and she preceded him in death March 13, 2006. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He was formerly employed at Oliver Corp in Shelbyville and retired from World Color Press in 1993.
Robert enjoyed the company of family and friends, farming and playing with his antique tractors. He always has a smile on his face and a story to tell. He particularly enjoyed arguing with his buddies and drinking coffee at Gayla’s. He loved and was so proud of his family and did not hold back when “bragging” to anyone that would listen.
Surviving are one daughter, Donna Jean Arnold of Winter Springs, Fla.; one son, Larry Wayne Doty (wife Becky) of Beecher City; granddaughters, Brittany Gates (husband Franklin) of Palm Coast, Fla., Sara Arnold (fiance Tucker Kirkpatrick) of Winter Springs, Fla., Ashtyn Mellendorf (husband Nathan) of Mason and Ally Anderson (husband Craig) of Beecher City; great-grandchildren, Tyler Robert, Landon and Chandler Gates and Kambryn Wayne Mellendorf; sisters, Lois Shull of Glen Carbon and Evelyn Miller (husband Ernie) of Plainfield, Ind.; brothers, Harold Wayne Doty (wife Orda) of East Peoria and Richard Doty (wife Jeannie) of Beecher City; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Irby Lapington, Janet Doty, Shelby Strickland, Richard Beck, Dennis Beck, Ronald Beck, Leila Wills and Roger Beck; mother-in-law, Lydia Beck; many beloved nieces and nephews; and adopted son, Joe Kemme.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; brothers, Dorwin Doty and Nelson Doty; sisters, Lucille Lapington, Mary Alice Tipsword, Ruth Buzzard and Wanda Anderson; and several beloved in-laws.
