Gertrude Anna Silger, 95, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Hoyleton and Effingham, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Styninger Funeral Chapel, Hoyleton, with the Rev. Pamela Gale Smith officiating. Burial will be in Zion Evangelical Cemetery, Hoyleton. She was born on Jan. 14, 1918, in Hoyleton, the daughter of John and Lydia Toedte Herzog. She married Edwin J. Silger on Sept. 28, 1940, in Missouri and he passed away on April 9, 1979. Mrs. Silger was a sales clerk at Montgomery Ward and Goldies Department Store in Centralia. She was a former member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Hoyleton and the St. Peter United Church of Christ in Centralia, where she was active in the ladies guild. She loved to play pinochle.
Left to mourn her passing are two daughters, Janet (Fred) Kirts of Effingham, and Lynda (Mike) Venters of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Leonard Herzog of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Ken (Sandy) Kuhn of Effingham and Kara (Jeff) McAndrew of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two stepgrandchildren, Kimberly (Tim) Collins of Indianapolis, and Bridgett (Gary) Randolph of Chatham; three great-grandchildren, Keegan, Barron and Kensley McAndrew; four great-stepgrandchildren, Lily and William Randolph and Mackenzie and Cameron Collins; nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Walter and Erwin Herzog; four sisters, Vera Hammond, Linda Huntsman, Ann Osborn and Mabel Vann.
