DANVILLE — William Edward Smith, 84, of Danville, formerly of Neoga, passed away at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, in the Presence United Samaritans Medical Center of Danville.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, with the Rev. Richard Coen officiating. Burial will be in Neoga Memorial Cemetery with military services conducted by the V.F.W. Post 4325 of Mattoon. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. William was born Aug. 14, 1928, in Fontanet, Ind., the son of Ollen and Mary (Hamblett) Smith. He married Letha Marie Lindley, Oct. 27, 1959, in Effingham. William served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a printer for 50 years, employed at the Journal Gazette of Mattoon, and the Commercial News of Danville. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 259 of Rosedale, Ind. William was a lover of old cars, attending car shows and enjoyed working on and talking about cars.

William leaves his wife, Letha Marie Smith of Danville; five children, Deborah Kay Siefert and husband, Mark of Terre Haute, Ind., David (Bo) Barber and wife, Peggi White of Ogden, Kathy O’Brian of Danville, William E. Smith Jr. and wife, Laura of Sheboygan, Wis., and Michael (Mike) Smith and wife, Vera of Milwaukee; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and one son, Timothy Allen Smith.
