EFFINGHAM — Charles Edward Berry, 85, of Effingham, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home at The Glenwood in Effingham.
There will be no services for Charles at this time. As per the wishes of the family, cremation rites will be accorded. Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.hallfuneralchapel.com.
Charles was born in Lawrenceville, the son of John and Oase Bowman Berry on April 28, 1928. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force for nine years and served during the Korean Conflict. During his service to our country he was an air policeman. Charles met Eileen Scott and later they were married on Dec. 5, 1958, at the Methodist Church, St. Elmo. Charles was a trooper for the Illinois State Police Department for 25 years and during this time he had earned the rank of Corporal. After retiring he worked at the Cardinal Golf Course here in Effingham, where this was fitting for him, because of his love for golf. He also had a passion for bowling and playing Scrabble.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen of The Glenwood; son, Gregory (wife, Paula) Berry of Oviedo, Fla.; granddaughter, Laura (husband, Charles) Stanley of Oviedo, Fla.; and grandson, Kevin Berry of Tallahassee, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Penny Rose Stanley.
