Glenn was born March 9, 1935, in Cumberland County, the son of Rual and Chlora Mae (Chapman) Warfel. He married Sandra Luke on Sept. 5, 1954. He graduated from Newton High School in 1953 and Illinois Bankers School at SIU in 1978.
He was a member of Southside Church of Christ Church in Mattoon and enjoyed attending services and the association of his Christian friends.
Glenn was a banker at Greenup National Bank. He served as its president for the last nine years of his 40 years of service and retired on March 31, 2000. He was actively involved in his community in many ways. He had been an EMT and volunteer firefighter for the Village of Greenup for many years. He served for 26 years as Cumberland School Board treasurer. He was on the Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center Board of Directors for 20 years. Glenn served as president of the Greenup Kiwanis Club and as Greenup Industries treasurer for a number of years. He also enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball at Greenup Ball Park.
Glenn was just as comfortable riding his tractor to mow a lawn or till a garden as he was working at Greenup National Bank in a suit and tie. Glenn was a friendly man who loved to have conversations with business associates, friends and neighbors. He loved gardening and shared the bounty with others. He liked short trips, but was always anxious to get back to his work. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra, and his family.
