---- — Jay Welker, 90, of St. Elmo, passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, April 12, at C & A Pagel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, with the Rev. Randol Shrum officiating. Burial with military graveside rites by St. Elmo American Legion Post 420 will be in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital, Fairview Methodist Church or the donor’s choice.
Jay was born on Aug. 7, 1922, in Fayette County, the son of John F. and Nellie McKenzie Welker. He married Rebecca Smith on June 14, 1975, in Scottsdale, Ariz. Jay was a member of the American Legion Post 420, St. Elmo; St. Elmo Mason’s Lodge 769; Scottish Right; York Right and Shriner’s. He enjoyed flying airplanes, driving Ford mustangs and going on trail rides.
Jay is survived by his wife, Rebecca of St. Elmo; son, John Welker of Evansville, Ind.; and adopted daughter, Marcia Perkins of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey W. and husband, Harold E. Belden.
