Clarence Duval Spence II, 79, of Waverly, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 in Waverly Chapel of Luff Bowen Funeral Home, Waverly, Tenn., with the Rev. David Gray officiating. Interment was in Harpeth Hills in Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Spence was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Vernon, Tenn., the son of the late Claude Spence Sr. and Zenobia Westfall Spence. He was married to Norma Bahrns Spence. He was employed with Effingham Unit 40, Golightly Brothers and a retired mechanic for Pan Am and Philipi Excavating. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Kimberly Lea Brink (Ralph) of Bloomingburg, N.Y., Kristine Annette Stuart (Stephen) of Dierks, Ark., and Claude C. Spence III (Stacy) of McEwen, Tenn.; two brothers, John Paul “Jack” Spence of San Bernardino, Calif., and Peter Spence (Deb) of Effingham; seven sisters, Anne Bourgeois, Cathy Bliss, Barbara Murphy and Joan Gouchenouer, all of Effingham, Jeanne Derry of Atchison, Kan., Susan Poe of Altamont, and Terri (Ray) Levingston of Montrose; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ralph Spence; and on brother, Claude C. Spence Jr.
