---- — Melicent H. Radford, 92, of Chester, passed away Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Independence Care Center, Perryville, Mo.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester. Interment will be at Evansville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 to 10 a.m. Sunday at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to P.K.U. Foundation. She was born to Walter Heck and Louise (Telthorster) Heck on May 7, 1921, in Evansville. She married Jesse Radford on Sept. 1, 1938, in Farmington, Mo. He preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 1997.
Melicent was a retired school bus driver for Zweigert Bus Service and was also an over-the-road truck driver with her husband for many years. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Evansville, American Legion Auxiliary in Evansville, Evansville Senior Citizens, Chester Senior Citizens and Chester Eagles.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (John) Ragland, of Naples, Fla., and Judy (Mark) Shields of Chester; one sister, Mary Jane (Ed) Scott of Evansville; one sister-in-law, Delores Heck of Sparta; one brother-in-law, Rolin “Shorty” Menard of Red Bud; four grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Ragland, Jodi (Michael) Baker, Jeffrey (Sheri) Ragland and Lyndsi (Adam) Koszo; 11 great-grandchildren, Ryan Ragland Jr., Lauryn Ragland, Sara Ragland, Mitchell Ragland, Hunter Baker, Claire Baker, Avery Ragland, Andrew Ragland, Vayda Wasem, Oliver Wasem and Sydney Koszo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse Radford; three sisters, Lindy Schroeder, Rosalie “Sally” Heizer and Marlene Menard; three brothers, Vincent Kruse, Les Heck and Clarence Heck; and one great-grandchild, Lucas “BBoy” Ragland.
