Donald “Dewey” Morris Sr., 68, of Effingham, passed away on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2013, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Branch Side Cemetery in Gays. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be left at www.hallfuneralchapel.com.
Donald was born April 12, 1945, in Shelbyville, the son of Wanda Morris.
He was a mechanic in the Effingham area after serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He also ran his own business for a while. Donald was a lifetime member of the VFW in Effingham. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He married Carol Jackson and they had two daughters, Rosemarie (Allen) Walden of Woodlawn and Lyndell (Jim) Baker of Watson. They later divorced and he married Zena Nance of Bethany on May 17, 1969. Together they had two sons, Donald (Kelly) Morris Jr. of Texas and Joey (Danielle) Morris of Effingham.
Don is survived by his wife of 44 years, Zena; two daughters; two sons; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and brothers, David Tipsword of Effingham and Merton Scroggins (special friend, Brian Jones) of Farina.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and grandparents.
