---- — Dean L. Elmore, 80, of rural Wheeler, passed away at 10:40 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services celebrating Dean’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Latona Church of Christ, Latona, with Nate Hagen officiating. Burial will be in Bailey Cemetery, west of Latona. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. In loving memory of Dean, memorials may be made to the Latona Church of Christ Building Fund. Dean was born on Dec. 22, 1932, in Jasper County, the son of Homer and Mamie (Clagg) Elmore. He married Claire French on June 1, 1958, and she survives.

Dean was a lifelong farmer and had worked as a construction worker for Bender Built in constructing silos. Dean served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

Dean was a faithful member of the Latona Church of Christ. He loved his church, traveling and playing with his bulldozer. He was devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Dean is survived by his wife of 54 years, Claire Elmore of Wheeler; two daughters, Charlotte (Jeff) Burris of Mesa, Ariz., and Brenda (Charles) Call of Springfield; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; two sisters, Ilene Corso of Newton and Beverly (Paul Dean) Flinn of Milton, Fla.; six brothers, Marvin (Dorothy), Merle (Rosemary), Vonley and Roscoe (Edith) Elmore, all of Wheeler, Sheldon (Betty) Elmore of Mason and Loren (Norma Jean) Elmore of Johnsonville; brother-in-law, Paul (Judy) French Jr. of Lake Butler, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Elmore; brother, Alvin Elmore; sisters-in-law, Charlene Elmore and Evelyn Elmore; brother-in-law, Arley Osborn; mother- and father-in-law, Beulah and Paul French Sr.; and a nephew, John Elmore.
