Arthur William “Bill” Tarr, 81, of Wheeler, U.S. Army veteran, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, with the Rev. Kevin Colclasure officiating. Burial will be in Dieterich City Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, March 23, at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. Florence Simmons, 85, of Edgewood, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 23, at the funeral home. Memorials are requested to Lincoln Land Hospice or St. Jude Hospital.
Florence was born on Jan. 1, 1928, in Clay County, the daughter of David and Felicia (Abel) Davis. She married Robert “Bob” Simmons on June 12, 1954, at Flora and he preceded her on Sept. 13, 2003. She was a homemaker. Memberships include the Full Gospel Church, Edgewood, Edgewood-Mason Keenagers, and Mason Twp. voting committee. Florence loved her family and their faithful Sunday gatherings. She enjoyed quilting, and visiting with her special neighbors, Charles and Norma Veatch.
Surviving are her sons, Dave (Gerri) Cochran of Edgewood, Jerry “Beebe” Simmons of Edgewood, and Robert “Bubbles” (Brenda) Simmons of Dieterich; daughters, Dorothy “Dot” Depoister of Edgewood, Joyce (Steve) Liggett of Waltonville, Sherry Simmons of Edgewood, Kathy (Michael) Mosley of Edgewood, Pat (Gary) Harmon of Edgewood, Pam (James) Magnus of St. Peter, Lisa Merritt of Edgewood, Sandy (Ronnie) Colclasure of LaClede, and Shelia (Butch White) Simmons of Edgewood; sister, Fleda Simmons of Dieterich; brother-in-laws, Noel (Georgia) Simmons of Mason, Charles (Lucille) Simmons of Texas, Ralph (Marietta) Simmons of Mason and Glen (Freda) Simmons of LaClede; sister-in-law, Betty Ingram of Effingham; 47 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and her faithful companion “Pooch.”
