Joan Marie Bierman, 63, of Newton, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Voelker Home for Seniors, rural Mason.
Funeral mass celebrating Joan’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, with the Rev. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. In loving memory of Joan, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas School. Joan was born on July 17, 1949, in Effingham, the daughter of Edwin and Anna Mae (Brummer) Jansen. She married Bill Bierman on Feb. 5, 1972, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Edgewood, and he survives. Joan was a 1967 graduate of St. Anthony’s High School in Effingham and a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. Joan was a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Joan is survived by husband of 41 years, Bill Bierman; five children, Chris (Melany) Bierman of Newton, Ben (Jill) Bierman of Newton, Jack (Kari) Bierman of Jewett, Ann (Bill) Swingler of Teutopolis, and Mary (Scott) Willenborg of Sigel; 16 grandchildren; five brothers, Lonnie Jansen, Nick Jansen, Tom Jansen, Joe Jansen and Stan Jansen, all of Mason; and two sisters, Betty Bailey of Mason, and Ellen Weber of Wakefield.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents.
