---- — Carol Sue (Hayward) Dilley, 57, of Cowden, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Free Methodist Church, Cowden. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery, Cowden. Memorials can be made in memory of Carol to the humane society. Lockart-Green Funeral Home, Cowden, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.lockartgreenfuneralhome.com.

She was born Sept. 25, 1955, in Taylorville, the daughter of John Hayward and Lois (Tucker) Shipp. She married Bob Dilley on Oct. 12, 1974, in Cowden.

She was a member of Free Methodist Church and the humane society. She was a military wife when her husband served in the U.S. Marines. She was an ER tech at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C., and later at at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Lastly, she was a phlebotomist with Gamma based out of St Louis, serving Shelby County and surrounding areas.

Carol was a loving wife and mother. Friends and animals were her passion and delight. Her constant smiling, laughter and joking around will never be forgotten. She loved to play computer games, listen to music and entertain her grandchildren, chat with friends and family and travel. She loved cooking for family and friends and was especially known for her home made noodles and fried chicken. Gardening and lawn care was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved the smell of lilacs and honey suckle.

Surviving are her husband, Bob; children, Amy Bright (husband, Charles) of San Antonio and Chuck Dilley of Cowden; mother, Lois Denton Shipp (husband, Don) of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; father, John Hayward (wife, Roven) of Charleston; sister, Kathy Mills (husband, Tom) of St. Elmo; stepsister, Sandra Denton of Delevan; grandchildren, Trey Culver, Laura Culver, Jacob Bright, Aubrie Dilley, Carter Dilley, Chrystina Bright, Chuck Bright and Chrystal Bright; great-grandchild, Sebastian Bright; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death waws Bill Denton and her favorite pet cat, Socks.
