---- — Lowell E. Peak, 66, of Effingham, passed away unexpectedly at 9:15 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with Dr. Joe Scheets officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Effingham Animal Rescue Sanctuary, P.O. Lowell was born on Oct. 19, 1946, in Marion, Va., the son of James R. and Catherine (Whisman) Peak. He married Patricia in St. Louis.
Lowell owned and operated Peak Construction Co. before his retirement in 2011. He was affiliated with Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham. He was a proud member of the Republican party. He was an avid animal lover. Over the years, he rescued and cared for many animals. Lowell enjoyed a simple life on Lake Sara since 1987.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Pat Peak of Effingham; daughter, Amanda (Mike Horaites) Atkinson of Chicago; brothers, James Peak and Richard (Denise) Peak, both of Baltimore; sisters, Sharon (Ralph) Haines and Linda Peak, both of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Janet Whitehead.
