Verlene (Blair) Borton, 97, of Edgewood, passed away at 5:55 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2014, at Effingham Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with a viewing one hour prior to service at Full Gospel Church, Edgewood, with Judy Poe officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 16, at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood. Memorials may be made to Full Gospel Church, Edgewood.
Verlene was born on July 6, 1916, in Clay County, the daughter of Edward and Ethel (Cornwell) Fender. She married Otto Blair in 1935, who preceded her in death in1977. She then married Lyle Borton in 1989 who also preceded her in death in 1991. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Edgewood. Verlene loved making pies and going to the Edgewood Opry House every Friday night. She loved being with family and friends and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her son, Robert Blair (wife Sandy) of Edgewood; daughter-in-law, Glenda Blair of Edgewood; stepdaughters, Nancy Lander of Florida and Kitty Widdows of Peoria; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leslie Blair; daughter, Esther Ramsey; eight brothers; two sisters; one grandson, Doug Hall; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany Blair and Reece Grupe.
