Janet A. Flach, 85, of Effingham, passed away at 9:38 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Grade School. Janet was born June 15, 1928, in Effingham, the daughter of Herman and Clara (Repking) Habing. She married Francis P. “Fran” Flach on July 24, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 2002. Janet was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 720 and the Altar Sodality. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.
Janet is survived by her three sons, Paul (Maureen) of Dallas, Michael (Janet) of St. Louis, and Joseph (Jenny) of St. Charles, Mo.; three daughters, Marie (James) Burton of Neoga, Brenda (Bobby) Browning of Mattoon and Barbara (Martin) Littleton of Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Marilyn (Dennis) Noonan of Decatur, Sister Mary Barabara SSND of St. Louis, Elaine Sieben of Effingham; Geraldine Miller of Effingham and Ruth Swingler of Sigel; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren also survive.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fran; brother, Herman Habing; and sisters, Paulette Zimmerman, Anna Mae Gillespie, Rita Habing and Norma Worman.
