---- — Lou Ella Goldsborough, 73, of Altamont, died at 7:37 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, Altamont, with the Rev. Dr. Lowell E. Donnelley officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will in Little Prairie Cemetery (sometimes referred to as the Jackson Township Baptist Cemetery), rural Jackson Township, Effingham County. Memorials may be directed to the Little Prairie Cemetery in care of Gerald Knierim, 9467 East 975th Ave., Effingham, Illinois 62401 and or the donor’s choice. Lou Ella Higgs was born April 20, 1940, at home in rural Jackson Township, Effingham County. She was one of seven siblings born into the Christian family of Virgil and Myrtle Larimer-Higgs. Lu Ella grew up with brothers Eddie “Pete”, Jake, Dick and her sisters Ruth, Rose and Irene. She married Charles Eldon Goldsborough on Aug. 6, 1971. Lou Ella was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church where she served in numerous positions as the Altamont Baptist Church secretary, was diligent in Bible study classes as well as working in the nursery for the congregation. She was very proud of her church and very faithful until her health confined her travels. She attended Altamont Community High School. Most of all, she was a good housewife and with her husband raised their families together.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, David Paul (wife, Sharon) Thomas of Nash, Texas; Donald Lotter of Gray’s Lake, Ind., and Douglas Allen Culver of Altamont; three daughters, Ranya Sue Park of Altamont, Debra Lynn Culver of Flora, and Diane Kay Culver of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, Eddie “Pete” (wife, Mary) Higgs of Altamont; two sisters, Ruth (husband, Larry) Boaz of Altamont, and Rose Williams of Altamont; one sister-in-law, Lillian Higgs of Clovis, N.M.; six grandchilden; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers, Jake and Dick Higgs; and one sister, Irene and her husband Forrest Tucker.
