Dale Webb

Dale Eugene Webb, 84, of Effingham, went to begin his eternal life with his Heavenly Father, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and a host of relatives and friends at 12:58 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Watson Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kent Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Watson Baptist Church with a 7 p.m. Masonic Rites service. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Memorials may be made to Watson Masonic Lodge 602. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonandsonsfh.com.

Dale was born Oct. 7, 1929, in Watson. He was the youngest child of Jerome and Bertha (Hosman) Webb. He married Hilda K. Johnston on Feb. 14, 1948. On Oct. 1, 1961, Dale and Hilda bought the Ooton property at the corner of Hamilton and South Banker Street and it became Webb’s Auto and Alignment Shop, Inc. for the next 30 years. Dale and Hilda retired on January 1, 1991.

Dale was a member of the Watson Baptist Church for 59 years and a member of Watson Masonic Lodge 602 for 62 years. He was a member of the Unit 40 School Board for three years, serving as president for one year. He served as the Watson Township Clerk for four years and as Watson Township Supervisor for four years. He got to see some wishes come true when the Watson Fire Department was organized and had a new building to meet in and enough equipment to do the job! Dale was a trustee of Watson Baptist Church when he and a lot of good people with their “hearts of one accord” built a new church home for all in 1969.

Every fall for several years, he and his good buddies went west to hunt and fish, always winding up at his beloved Uncle Cecil Hosman’s place in Mobridge, S.D. Dale also loved to frequent the “coffee shop” in Watson and loved nothing more than playing pranks on his friends and laughing.
