---- — Harry W. Bernahl, 82, of Altamont, died at 3:24 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with the Rev. Jason Rensner officiating. Burial with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 120, VFW Post 1769 and DAV Chapter 7, all of Effingham, will follow at Immanuel Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont. Memorials may be made to Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center or the donor’s choice.

Harry was born on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1930, in Altamont to Martin and Maria (Klitzing) Bernahl. He served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He married Kathryn M. Bernahl on March 22, 1952, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tuscola, IL and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2005. He had retired from Contel where he had been a superivsor. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Chuch

Harry is survived by his daughters, Debbie Steele and her husband Mike of Paducah, Ky., and Lori Haywood and her significant other Todd Steiner of Altamont; nieces, Linda and Sharon; sister-in-law, Betty Bernahl of Sycamore, IL, daughter-in-law, Debbie Bernahl of Altamont; 10 grandchildren, Brad Corder and his wife Jill of Troy, IL, Mandi Banks and her husband Kevin of Altamont, Greg Corder, Jeff Bernahl and his wife Vicki, Jenny Bernahl and her friend Nathan Wendling, Jess Bernahl, Johanna Haywood, Brandon Haywood, Justin Haywood, and Krista Hall, all of Altamont ;and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Robert Bernahl and brother, Louis Bernahl.
