John L. Wenthe, 78, of Mt. Zion, passed away at 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Durango, Colo.
A service to celebrate John’s eternal life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1960 E. Johns Ave., Decatur, with the Rev. John Laux officiating. A graveside committal service will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Effingham City Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church. John was born Nov. 14, 1934, in Effingham, the son of John and Dorothy (Soltwedel) Wenthe. He married Lois A. Frankenstein on Nov. 24, 1955. John was a retired pressman from Houston-Patterson Printing Corporation. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. John was a long-time member of the Decatur Gun Club. He was employed part-time for Decatur Auto Auction.

John is survived by his wife, Lois of Mt. Zion; mother, Dorothy Wenthe of Effingham; daughter, Kathy Webb and her husband, Steve of Anderson, S.C.; son-in-law, Paul Lambert of Valparaiso, Ind.; brother, the Rev. Dr. Dean O. Wenthe and his wife, Linda of Fort Wayne, Ind.; grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Webb of Fairbanks, Alaska, Dr. Chelsea Webb-Fox and her husband, Sayl of Greenville, S.C., Kelley Macke of Valparaiso, Ind., Katelyn Lambert and her husband, Joe of Kouts, Ind., and Kristen Macke of Valparaiso, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Leah Lambert, Jessica Lambert, Hannah Lambert, Josie Lambert and Jason Lambert, all of Valparaiso, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his father; and daughter, Debbie Lambert.
