---- — Richard “Dick” W. Childress, 56, of rural Beecher City, passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at 7:07 a.m. at his residence surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with one hour viewing prior to service at Liberty Christian Church, rural Sefton. Visitation will be held today (Monday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church with Masonic Rites at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Springhill Cemetery in rural Loudon Township, Fayette County, Beecher City. Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony’s Radiology Department, Liberty Christian Church or donor’s choice. Services are being held by C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo.

Dick was born June 24, 1957, the son of Vancil Wayne and Peggy Elizabeth (Sparks) Childress in Effingham. He married Denise Marie Daugherty on Nov. 15, 1998 in Rural Methodist Church, Carlinville.

Dick was self-employed as an electrician and a Tupperware consultant. He formally worked in the maintenance department at World Color Press in Effingham and was also a former employee at PETCO in St. Elmo. He was a graduate of St. Elmo High School, the class of 1975. He furthered his education and received an associate degree in electronics from R.E.T.S. Electronics in Louisville, Ky. He was a member of Liberty Christian Church (former Deacon and praise team member), St. Elmo Masonic Lodge #769 (as a Master Mason and Past Master), and Union Local #391C, Effingham.

He is survived by his wife Denise; mother, Peggy Elizabeth Warren of Beecher City; sons, Kent Max (companion Micah) Childress of St. Elmo, Michael Wayne (wife Ashley) Childress of St. Anne and Jeremy Scott (wife Sarah) Gracey of Strasburg; daughter, Tina Marie (husband Chad) Foulk of Piggott, Ariz; brother, Loren Ray Childress of Mattoon; half-brother Robert Lynn Warren of Washington State; sisters, Marla Kay (husband John) Hockman of Olney and Lisa Jo (husband Jamie) Mossberg of Sheridan, Ind.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Daugherty of Carlinville; and 12 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father.
