Charles Thomas Lynch, 89, of Tamaroa, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Effingham Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Effingham. He had recently been residing at The Glenwood Assisted Living in Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Searby Funeral Home, Tamaroa. Burial will be in the Tamaroa City Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion and U.S. Navy. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, April 5, at the funeral home. Charles was a retired coal miner. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Tamaroa Masonic Lodge. Charles was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and had served from 1941 until 1945. He had served aboard the USS Walke. He was born May 19, 1923, at Du Quoin, the son of Orval and Mary (Nickens) Lynch. He married Kathryn J. Melvin on June 16, 1941, at Perryville, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2005.
He is survived by one son, Charles David Lynch and wife, Judy, of Effingham; son-in-law, Richard Bathon and wife, Patricia, of Centralia; six grandchildren, Greg Heck and wife, Debbie, of Du Quoin, Mary Nippe and husband, Ricky, of Tamaroa, Charles Heck and wife, Kami, of Du Bois, Sabrina Bathon of Pinckneyville, Christopher Lynch and wife, Becky, of St. Charles, Mo., and Jennifer Carpenter and husband, Bill, of St. Louis; 12 great-grandchildren, Taylor Heck, Payton Nippe, Bailey Nippe, Bryant Lively, Kaliyn Lively, Kelton Lively, Jacob Heck, Sophie Heck, Gabrielle Lynch, Madison Lynch, Posey Carpenter and Scout Carpenter; and one great-great-grandchild, Jaedon Heck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one daughter, Judith Bathon; one brother, Robert Lynch; and one granddaughter, Stacey Fox.
