---- — Matthew Scott Hartrich, 43, of Newton, passed away at 6:12 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral Mass celebrating Scott’s life will celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Newton, with the Rev. Al Kemme celebrating Mass. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Newton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, April 4, at the church. In loving memory of Scott, memorials may be made to the Megan and John Hartrich’s Education Fund. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton. Scott was born on March 12, 1970, in Olney, the son of Michael D. and Teresa E. (Zuber) Hartrich. He married Joyce Marie Volk on Oct. 12, 2002, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin. Scott graduated from Newton Community High School in 1988. He went on to attend Eastern Illinois University, earning a bachelor’s degree. Scott was a correctional officer at the Lawrence Correctional Center. Scott was a member of Olney Knights of Columbus and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. Scott enjoyed baseball, softball, basketball, bowling and playing poker. The greatest joy of his life was his family: wife, Joyce, and his children, Megan and John.

Scott is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joyce Marie Hartrich of Newton; children, Megan Ella Hartrich and John Matthew Hartrich, both of Newton; parents, Mike and Teresa Hartrich of Newton; sister, Michele (Dusty) Wright of Newton; grandmothers, Lucie Hartrich of Ste. Marie and Estella Zuber of Olney; and father- and mother-in-law, Gib and Pat Volk of Ingraham.

Scott was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Harold Hartrich and Herman Zuber; and brothers-in-law, Chuck Volk and John Volk.
