A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Effingham.
John Richard Martins was born March 3, 1940, in Effingham, and died Dec. 17, 2013, in Chicago. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations in John’s name to Lincoln Park Conservancy, 2000 N. Racine, Suite 2080, Chicago, IL 60614, or the donor’s choice.
He served in the Army Reserves 1958-1966. John received his Ph.D. in Philosophy at U of WI, Madison. He taught at Indiana University Southeast 1974-78, moving then to Chicago where he taught at Roosevelt University for 27 years, retiring to Emeritus Associate Professor status. Dr. Martins was a licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice and was appointed to the Illinois Board of the Dept. of Education and Registration where he served both as a member and as the President. John was certified in Luminous Healing and Energy Medicine from the Four Winds Society and integrated his energy and luminous healing practice with his clinical practice. He was a member of the Equiibrium Energy and Education Center and the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology. Dr. Martins volunteered with many organizations throughout his career professionally and with the Lincoln Park Conservancy at North Pond as a gardener and as a docent at the Caldwell Lilly Pool.
He is survived by two sisters, Flora Jeanne Haack and Janet Martins.
His parents, John and Gladys Martins, preceded him in death.
