---- — Mary Kathryn Jansen, 81, of Sigel, passed away at 10:26 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church with a 7 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools, St. Michael’s School or St. Anthony's Hospital. Kathryn was born May 28, 1932, in Cairo, the daughter of John and Stephanie (Flamm) Daugherty. She married Charles S. Jansen on Aug. 25, 1956, and he preceded her in death in 1991. Kathryn was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women, St. Anthony Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Kathryn was a school teacher; starting out at Teutopolis and later retired from Neoga High School. Kathryn enjoyed traveling, reading and spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Molly.
Kathryn is survived by her four sons, Joseph (Lesa) of Mt. Airy, Md., Gerard (Kim) of Wilmington, Victor (Nancy) of Effingham, and Robert of Sigel; two daughters, Clarice (Tim) Singer of Sullivan and Jennifer (Joe) Wilkerson of Carlyle; two brothers, John (Jackie) Daugherty of St. Charles, and Fr. James Daugherty of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren, Madeleine, Stephanie and Caroline Jansen, Lena and Katie Singer, Seth, Alex and Will Jansen, Chris Lainey and Paige Wilkerson, Paul and Luke Jansen.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles.
