---- — Robert V. “Bob” Browning 86, of Mt. Zion, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Imboden Creek Living Center.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joel Stevenor officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. Monday for a time of visitation at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy Honors Team. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church or Imboden Creek Living Center. Bob was born Sept. 18, 1927, in Effingham County, the son of Minor and Vivian (Hilton) Browning. He married Lucille Gunn on Sept. 6, 1953. He enlisted in the US Navy and was a World War II veteran having served in the Pacific Theater. Bob retired after 36 years of service from Illinois Power Company. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and had served as an elder of the church. He was a former youth coach for both basketball and baseball, and was a scout leader. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Richard Fritz and the staff of Imboden Creek Living Center for all the care and compassion shown to Bob and the family.
Surviving is his wife, Lucille of Mt. Zion; sons, Jim Browning and his wife Colleen of Hudson and David Browning and his wife Tami of Mt. Zion; grandchildren, Douglas Browning and his wife Allie, Sarah Browning, Laura Browning, Daniel Browning, Zach Lewis and his wife Jordin and Mallory Berry and her husband Travis. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
