Andrew Clay McCandless III, 76, of Kinmundy, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Odin Care Center.
A memorial celebration service will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Salem Moose Lodge. Memorials may be made to Shriners in Louisville, Ky., and may be left at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home of Salem.
He was born May 16, 1937, in Louisville, Ky., the son of Andrew C. McCandless II and Catherine Louise (Hoblitel) McCandless. He married Frances “Bettie” (Wessel) McCandless on March 5, 1955, in Louisville, Ky. He was a head pressman at World Color Press and pressman at Fawcett Dearing. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Salem Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances “Bettie” McCandess of Kinmundy; one daughter, Mary Cae Thomas and husband James of Indianapolis; one son, Leo Daniel McCandless and partner Tom Lawson of St. Louis; four brothers, William McCandless and wife Deborah of Louisville, Ky., James McCandless of Salem, George McCandless of Arizona, Lawrence McCandless and wife Linda of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Cynthia Stevens and husband James of Tennessee; Denise Weiter and husband Larry of Louisville, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Angela McCandless of Collinsville; and four grandchildren, Amber, Beth, Jacob and Olivia.
He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph C. McCandless; and a sister, Barbara Jean Frye.
