Larry W. Campton, 73, of Dieterich, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, rural Dieterich, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.bauerfh.com.
Larry was born Dec. 17, 1940, in Effingham, the son of Winfred and Emma (Staggs) Campton. Larry was a retired iron worker out of the local 439 in Terre Haute, Ind., and had served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting, riding horses and had a love for the outdoors. He was also a member of the Effingham American Legion Post 120 and the Effingham VFW Post 1769.
Larry is survived by his brother, Allen (Pamela) Campton of Shumway; sister, Jean Fruchtl (friend, Jim Probst) of Effingham; nephew, Bruce Fruchtl of Onalaska, Wis.; and niece, Erin Fruchtl of Belleville; special friend, Sara McKinney of Watson; many cousins, friends and neighbors also survive.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Fruchtl.
