---- — Vernon H. Detmer, 62, of Effingham, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, in his home.
Funeral services for Vernon will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hall Funeral Chapel, Effingham, with Pastor Larry M. Cline officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time. Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for their funeral expenses. Vernon was born on Oct. 1, 1951, the son of Ludwig “Louie” and Eileen (Jansen) Detmer in Breese. He was a truck driver for Midwest Trucking Company. Vernon married Darlene Heuerman on May 9, 2008, in Effingham, and she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene; children, Lisa (Nate) Hufker of Fairview Heights and Matthew (Melissa) Detmer of Breese; mother, Eileen Detmer; stepchildren, Jordan, Heather, Shelby and Sydney Rich, all of Effingham; grandchildren, Addison and Alayna Hufker and Ian and Rylee Detmer; stepgrandchildren, Salina Veach, and Jaden and Ezeckiel Rich; brothers, Dennis (Dorothy) Detmer of Breese, Mark (Jenny) Detmer of Albers, Dale (Geri) Detmer of Breese, Randy (Diana) Detmer of Belleville, and Kevin Detmer (partner, Eric Taylor) of Cambridge, Mass.; and sisters, Jane (Donald) Eilers of Highland, Julie Tebbe of Trenton, Joyce (Carl) Gilomen of Trenton, and Kathleen (Allen) Feldman of Breese.
He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles.
