---- — James H. Reiss, 87, of Altamont, died at 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at St. Clare Catholic Church, Altamont with the Rev. Joseph Simburger officiating. Burial will be at St. Clare Catholic Church Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel at Lutheran Care Center. James Henry Reiss was born on Monday, Feb. 22, 1926, in Effingham, to Henry and Edith Thoele Reiss. He married Margaret M. Dirks on June 9, 1951, and she survives. Jim served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of St. Clare Catholic Church and Gieseking-Schwertdfeger VFW Post 7676, Altamont, the St. Elmo Golf Club and the Knights of Columbus, Effingham. Jim was retired from Contel (now Frontier Communications) after many years of service.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are his daughter, Jane (Mark) Polivka of Ellicott City, Md.; his brothers, Robert Reiss of Effingham and Charles Reiss of Altamont; his sisters, Anna Mae McCain and Phyllis Coleman of Altamont and Dorothy Augustine of Evansville, Ind.; and granddaughters, Jenna and Holly.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson Steven in infancy.
