---- — Melba Maurine Ruff, 76, of Strasburg, was called to her Heavenly home at 7:08 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, with the Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday, both at the church. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or St. Paul’s Ladies Aid. Online condolences may be left at www.howeandyockey.com.
Mrs. Ruff was born on Aug. 20, 1937, in rural Windsor, the daughter of Clarence A. and Celia F. Kull Schultz. She graduated from Windsor High School in the Class of 1955. Melba began working at CIPS in Mattoon. She married Donald D. Ruff on Feb. 10, 1957, in Strasburg. Melba and Don farmed together in rural Strasburg until their retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, where she was active in Ladies Aid and held many offices over her years of service. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Don; children, Janice (Mark) Moomaw of Stewardson, Ronald (Ginniveve Reinhardt) Ruff of Ruidoso, N.M., and Lisa (Bryant) Kennell of Eureka; grandchildren, Adam (Alyssa) Moomaw of Sullivan, Zachary Moomaw of Mattoon, Erin, Austin, Ryan, Logan and Dustin Kennell all of Eureka; great-grandson, Owen Moomaw of Sullivan; and brothers, Ralph (Helen) Schultz of Strasburg, and Ervin (Martha) Schultz of Lexington, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Kristin Moomaw.
