---- — John Oscar Hoffman, 87, of Edgewood, peacefully passed away at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood, with the Rev. Kent Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior the service Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Cemetery.
John was born March 15, 1926, the son of Oscar and Mary K. (Mazanek) Hoffman. He resided in Edgewood for 80 years. In his younger years, he had a fascination with horses. His garden had some of the largest watermelons in the area. He always kept up with events in Edgewood by reading the Effingham Daily News. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family. He is survived by nieces, Sue (Rex) Hess of Champaign and Mary (John North) Clow of St. Joseph; nephew, Phil (Cindy) Clow of Oakland, Calif.; five great-nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sisters, Lois and Betty Hoffman; nephew, David Dewey Clow; and great-nephews, Matthew Nerlien and Joshwa Smith; half brothers, Harold and Voris Hoffmann; and half sisters, Hazel Hoffman Craig and Nadine Hoffman Whitaker.
