---- — Bobby Joe Petty, 80, of Effingham, passed away at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the VFW, American Legion Post 120 or the Wounded Warrior Project. Bobby was born on Oct. 26, 1932, in Effingham, the son of Virgil and Bessie (Pyles) Petty. He married Gretel K.B. Heinze on Dec. 9, 1954, in Augsburg, Germany. She preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2010. Bobby was a former member of the Willow Street Church of Christ. He served his country as an Army medic participating in multiple tours of duty in Germany, Korea, and Japan during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. After 21 years of service, Bobby retired from the Army. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Bobby loved woodworking.
Bobby is survived by his daughter, Alisha Noffke of Branson, Mo.; sons, Harry (wife, Jan) Petty of Terre Haute, Ind., and Eric (wife, Susan) Petty of Effingham; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Noffke of Athens, Ga., Ryan (Carli) Noffke of Columbia, Mo., Joe Petty of Effingham, Veronica Spaulding of Olympia, Wash., Eleni Petty of Effingham, and Nicolette Iatropoulos of Effingham; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gretel K.B. Petty; brothers, Bill Petty, Vernon Petty, Fred Petty, Wayne Petty, Ralph Petty, Ray Petty and Roy Petty; sisters, Mary Goldsberrry and Leona Dean; and grandchild, Gina LaGrande.
