Welcome to the Effingham Daily News web site. To fulfill the newspaper's purpose of serving the community and providing information to readers, the newspaper is proud to provide this online version, in addition to our complete news edition in print. We welcome all comments about our web site or the newspaper in general, including suggestions on how to improve our services. The Effingham Daily News has a long history of serving the residents within a seven-county area in South Central Illinois. The EDN was born in July 1946 from the merger of four newspapers - the Effingham Daily Record, the Effingham Republican, the County Review and the Effingham Democrat. The newspaper was owned by the McNaughton family for 46 years before it was sold to Park Communications in December 1992. In 1996, the EDN was sold to Media General Inc. and sold again in 1997 to Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. (CNHI). Hollinger International Inc. - American Publishing Division - acquired the Daily News in December 1998 and in November 2000 sold the newspaper back to CNHI. With a net paid circulation of 13,315 (information from Audit Bureau Circulations), the Daily News serves the counties of Effingham, Jasper, Fayette, Cumberland, Clay and Shelby, as well as portions of Marion and Clark counties. The Daily News is committed to keep the residents informed about what is occurring in the communities throughout the area.
